Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside company that operates the tool. That provider processes the request and supplies its result. Charles City County Criminal History does not keep a local log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to answer it and maintain the related correspondence. Messages are not disclosed outside the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server operations can collect technical information when a page loads:
- Page-view dates, times, and duration
- Device category and operating system
- Internet Protocol address
- Referring website, when available
- Browser name and version
- Pages requested during the visit
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files that can help measure traffic, common navigation paths, and page performance. Analytics services combine those signals into site-use reports. A browser can reject or remove cookies, although blocking them may change how some functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and security problems
- Routing a search request to its provider
- Measuring which resources visitors use
- Operating and improving site performance
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Charles City County Criminal History does not compile, host, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes directions to the Charles City Sheriff, the district and circuit clerks, the Virginia State Police CARE/CCRE repository, and the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a record about another person. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms govern information submitted through those tools, and each company controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review the provider's policy before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links can lead to Virginia agencies, Charles City offices, courts, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows such a link, the destination's policy controls the visit. Read those terms before submitting personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own technology to measure activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs on the provider's systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that serve material on the pages
- Search providers that receive queries through their tools
- Government authorities when a valid legal demand requires disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable safeguards are used for information under our control. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so unauthorized access or loss cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. A confirmed minor's information will be removed when identified.
Your Data Rights
Rights can depend on residence and the law that applies. Virginia's Freedom of Information Act, Va. Code § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs access to public agency records, while Va. Code § 19.2-389 limits dissemination of state criminal-history information. Those laws govern official custodians, not records stored here. For information actually held by this private site, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of eligible personal data
- Ask what personal information is retained
- Seek correction of inaccurate data
- Object to certain processing where the law permits
